| 'I believe there is tremendous power in expressing our thoughts, feelings, and ideas.
The greatest gifts I can give are to listen and help people of all ages discover the strengths within them.' |
INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING
A wise friend said, "People just want to be heard." In counseling both children and adults I have
found this to be true. Listening with acceptance and empathy is a major component of therapy.
Belief in the strengths and resources that people bring to therapy is another. People of all ages may stuff their
feelings in an attempt to please others and fit in. My most successful outcomes in therapy have come about when
clients have allowed themselves to move through their feelings, change their thought patterns, & use their spiritual strengths to heal themselves.
CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
It is not uncommon for girls to lose their voices during adolescence. Sometimes it is based on the struggle to fit in, be attractive to boys, and not appear too smart.
Many boys, in contrast, lose their ability to talk about their feelings before they even enter kindergarten. If true self-esteem is based on the authenticity of feelings,
it is no wonder so many kids do not believe in themselves. Counseling can help children and adolescents who are having ongoing difficulties with self-esteem,
loss and depression, and/or relationships with family members and peers.
FAMILY COUNSELING
Often the family needs to be involved to help a child who is experiencing painful feelings or disruptive behavior.
Parents have the power to choose how to respond to their children and what to energize. Parents do not have to be drawn into negative energy.
