Food, Weight, and Body Image:
Bess brings both professional expertise and personal
experience to this area of her work, giving her a unique perspective. After a life-long struggle of her own, Bess
discovered that diets, not only cause compulsion with food,
but rarely lead to lasting change. Bess realized that diets
fail to address the underlying emotional issues, while sending
the message that we cannot trust ourselves. Bess used a
non-diet, mindful approach to restore her relationship with
food, and return to her natural weight, losing 55 pounds.
Bess is passionate about helping others end their suffering
with food and their body, and discover what they are truly
hungry for. Bess has trained extensively with Geneen Roth,
author and expert on food, eating, and weight.
Adolescence:
This can be a difficult and confusing time for teens and their
families. Bess has a board range of experience helping teens
cope with issues of identity, peer pressure, family conflict,
substance use, and sexuality. Bess strives to provide teens with
the tools to make healthy, empowered choices, while helping
parents navigate this developmental stage.
|
| Bess received her Masters in Counseling from National-Louis
University. Besides her work at North Shore Wellness Services,
Bess is part of the medical team at Response Center in Skokie, a teen
clinic, focused on adolescent sexual health. Bess uses a holistic
approach, incorporating humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and
internal family systems theory, with an emphasis on mindfulness
and body-centered work.
